If you are planning to purchase a purebred dog, you may have encountered breeders who state that they train their dogs prior to their sales. As you may be uncertain as to whether or not this is the best option for you, there are some important points which you should keep in mind. In some cases, purchasing a dog which has already been trained by its breeder can be in your best interests; in others, it is not.

Making the decision to purchase a dog which was trained by its breeder has much to do with the particular breeder's qualifications. While having been in the business for many years is certainly a positive factor, it is also wise to seek recommendations from some of his previous customers. When you are given positive recommendations from these other dog owners, finding that they are completely satisfied with the results is a great start.

There is another, equally-important factor, however. Depending upon the type of dog you wish to purchase, you may find that the breeder you have selected trains his dogs for purposes which are entirely different from the reason you want the dog. For example, if you wish to purchase a breed of dog which is generally associated with hunting, but want the dog only as your personal pet or companion, you would not necessarily benefit from the breeder's expertise in training the dog to hunt. You will have the best results if the training which the prospective breeder provides is compatible to your own needs.

If you find that these factors are compatible, purchasing a dog which has been trained by its breeder can be an excellent choice. Not only does the breeder have valuable experience in training, but, in addition, he is familiar with his dogs. He knows what his particular breed is capable of, their own special characteristics and personalities, and the best ways in which the dogs should be managed. You will be gaining all of the wonderful benefits of his years of expertise with this particular breed of dog-- and this means your new dog will be ready for you when you take it home.
